The Sovereign Art Foundation Students Prize Awards Ceremony was held on the 22nd of March 2018 at the Malta Society of Arts, Palazzo de La Salle.
The Sovereign Art Foundation Malta Students Prize aims to encourage and provide a forum to promote the work of aspiring artists and to promote art and creativity in schools while also raising awareness for the plight of disadvantaged children both in Malta and abroad. The Schools Art Prize is held annually in Hong Kong, Singapore, Bahrain, Mauritius, South Africa, Portugal, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. Sovereign Trust (Malta) Limited in conjunction with the Sovereign Art Foundation sponsored the first annual Malta Schools Art Prize this year.
The competition was open to all students attending Years 9, 10 and 11 of all secondary schools as well as students attending post-secondary schools in Malta and Gozo. Artworks were submitted by the schools and each school had to submit no more than its best five entries. A selected panel of judges shortlisted 12 finalists.
Four of our students were amongst the 12 finalists in this art competition. Members of the public were encouraged to vote for their favourite piece through the SAF website. The exhibition and public vote were held at The Duke Shopping Mall in Gozo, The Malta Chamber of Commerce in Valletta and The Point Shopping Mall in Sliema.
Polina Loginova was awarded the first prize in this competition, with the highest number of votes. Her winning entry was Valletta 2018.
Both Polina and our school were awarded with a monetary prize. Polina was also given a special prize by the judges who had initially chosen the 12 finalists, as her painting was deemed to be the best entry in terms of artistic techniques. With her winning entry she is now going to compete with the winning entries of Hong Kong, Singapore, Bahrain, Mauritius, South Africa, Portugal, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
Pamela Lee Micallef, another student from our school, was awarded the third prize with her pen and ink drawing: The Main Guard. Both she and our school were also presented with a monetary prize.
The other finalists in this competition, including Mariah Micallef and Jessica Busuttil were presented with art materials and a gift voucher.
A BIG THANK YOU for all those who voted for the students of our school.
